Region: Chablis
Variety: Chardonnay
What's in the glass: “Drawn from two tiny plots (0.71 ha) planted in 1962, the vines here are now over 60 years old. Situated on the northern tip of the Vaillons hill, this 1er Cru benefits from a southeast exposition and slightly deeper soils than Vocoret’s neighbouring Châtain 1er Cru. According to Edouard Vocoret, wines from Vaillons tend to be “riper, warmer and spicy,” a style that distinguishes them from his Montmains holdings.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts in steel and matured for 12 months in well-seasoned barriques, this Sechet offers both richness and mineral drive. Expect citrus and orchard fruit lifted by saline freshness and a dry, stony finish.
“…dried citrus zest, apple, oyster shell and pear… a bit more volume and richness… stony, citrusy and very dry finale… should also drink reasonably well early.” – 90–92 points, Burghound
