What's in the glass: La Princée is a blend of 10 small village parcels totalling just under three hectares. One-third of these vines are over 60 years old; the remainder were planted in 1985 and 2000. The 2022 also includes 10% from the 1er Cru Les Frionnes. All the parcels are in the cooler, east-facing Saint-Aubin combe (valley) on rocky, limestone-rich soils. These sites are always the last to be picked because of their cooler location (open to the cold, northern winds that sweep down the combe), so you can expect a racy, smoky, rocky white Burgundy with great energy and a limestone-rich personality. Today, with Lamy’s new cellar, a fair proportion of large Stockinger casks are used in the maturation.
“Broad and deep, it needs more air to compete with the Bourgogne for attractiveness. But here is a nice volume in the mouth with an acidulated fruit energy – the broad wave of finishing flavour is both incisive and delicious – a super finish.” Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
