Region: Adelaide Hills
Variety: Shiraz
What's in the glass: Contrary to the back label this is actually a tiny single site parcel of Syrah from Ten Miles East in Norton Summit, a vineyard I have drawn small parcels from over the years. Fermented naturally with a good proportion bunches with nicely lignified stems for a classic Syrah style with surprising complexity. Aged in 2 old French barriques for 12 months before a further 4 months on fresh lees in tank. Just 450 litres produced.
Soft deep red colour. Aromatic but not the usual nose full of ripe berry fruits. As the Syrah style denotes expect more savoury complexity. Dried cherry, spent coffee grounds, dried red rose petals, dried mint, cassia bark; a little sanguine. Super savoury palate with a high acid profile underpinning the tart red and dark fruits that mingle with dark sweet spices and a gentle earthiness. Tannins are completely obscured by the acidity which draws the finish out to a ling finely honed point. Lovely bright fruit and sweet spice finish. Drink now with food or hold for 2-8 years.
