Region: Loire Valley
Variety: Chenin Blanc
What's in the glass: A brilliant expression of Chenin Blanc from Savennières, showing the unmistakable richness and energy of Nicolas Joly’s biodynamic approach. The 2024 opens with quince, ripe pear, orange peel and white flowers, followed by hints of beeswax, honey and flinty stone. The palate has plenty of texture and concentration, but it’s held together by vibrant acidity and that characteristic Savennières saline, mineral drive. There’s a lovely savoury edge through the long finish, with citrus peel and subtle bitter notes adding freshness. Made from Chenin grown on schist, quartz and sandy soils and matured in older oak, this is a complex, distinctive Loire white that will only become more interesting with time. Give it plenty of air if drinking young.
