What's in the glass: Roter Porphyr is the name given to the soil on which this Spatburgunder is farmed - a mix of Red Quartz and Silicon Rich Granite of volcanic origin. Real dirt nerd stuff. This leads to the most brightly perfumed wine of Johannes' stables, but still packs that classic, black forest cake Spatburgunder punch. Spritely acidity too, along with a nice chewy and firm tannin that wraps it all up in a neat little bow. The devil is in the details here, whilst the wine is absolutely charming to drink, it's got a lot more than meets the eye. It's a wine that when we opened up to taste, we just kept on revisiting to unravel it's secrets. It's probably the dirt. Compelling wine here no doubt.
