Region: Ballrat
Variety: Pinot Noir
What's in the glass: From Ballarat’s high Coghills Creek, the Eastern Peake Coghills Creek Pinot Noir 2023 spills out scents of tart raspberry, rhubarb, and pink peppercorn, shot through with slivers of wet slate and dried lavender. The mouthfeel is alive, weaving juicy red fruit across a scaffold of fine, chalk-dust tannins and a zippy acid line, trailing off with a clean, briny sting that nails the cool 2023 season. Made with a soft hand—wild yeasts in 3000L concrete vats, basket-pressed, then 12 months in French barriques (20% new)—it’s bottled unfiltered, with just a whisper of SO2. The four-block site, grey loam atop basalt, leans on organic farming and cover crops for soil vigor. This Pinot hums with bright, unforced clarity.
